Only 420 contestants earned a spot and only 27 are the “Champion of Champions”.

  4. Elan Xu says:

Ryan won 4 games in a row from july 4 to july 10 and has a 4-day total with $107,049, so why is he not on this year’s tournament of champions?

    • VJ says:

If you read the post, it answers your question, Elan. They skipped over numerous players to get a possible James / Emma rematch.

There’s no way everyone they skipped over will be in the next ToC, imo. Most of them would not have been in this one anyway. The holdover possibilities appear to be Ryan Bilger and Dave Leffler.

  5. Richard Corliss says:

This tournament will air on November 4-15, 2019.

  6. Patrick Mallon says:

Here are the rest of the players in Season 35 is actually both Seasons 34 and 35 combined.

    • VJ says:

Your nitpicking is getting annoying Patrick

      • Richard Corliss says:

@VJ Yeah. And this sounds like the four game curse wasn’t really a curse. Anneke, Lindsey, & Eric are not included in that video.

      • Patrick Mallon says:

        I am so sorry, VJ.

        • VJ says:

Okay, well, you just need to realize that most of the time, I can’t fix something till late in the evening, or in the case of adding someone to this list, I prefer to do it at the end of the week (esp when it is a 3x winner who has little chance of being in the ToC under ordinary circumstances).

Also, it would be nice if you contributed something to the board other than pointing out mistakes!

        • Patrick Mallon says:

          VJ, I would usually wait.

  7. Patrick Mallon says:

Emma Boettcher is really out of the running for the November 2019 ToC. She only won three games.

  8. Lou says:

I am going to like this tournament I really hope james will take it all the way to the finals but this should be great competition. Let’s hope we get a woman winning the tournament as well VJ.

  9. Elan Xu says:

I hope James Holzhauer will win the Tournament of Champions when he was the biggest winner of the 2018-19 season.

    • Richard Corliss says:

@Elan Xu I don’t know, something tells me I’m not gonna like this in November.

    • AD says:

Me too, Elan! If he does win, he will have $2,712,216. Then he will need $658,484 to tie Ken Jennings’ all time winnings of $3,370,700 and $1,976,220 to tie Brad Rutter’s all time winnings of $4,688,436.

  10. Richard Corliss says:

@VJ Well, what can I say? I hope no one gets higher than this current top 15 list. Let’s hope either Anneke, Rachel, Lindsey, or Emma win. We haven’t had a woman won this tournament ever since Celeste DiNucci redeemed the family name for her brother Dennis.

  11. Patrick Mallon says:

    E.J. Wolborsky’s reign is done.

  12. Patrick Mallon says:

    Emma Boettcher’s reign is over.

  13. Sharon says:

Do they actually win the dollars in each game if they win in addition to moving to the next level?

    • VJ says:

@Sharon, yes, they each won the amount shown from their winning games. They also got an additional $1K or $2K, depending on whether they finished 2nd or 3rd in the game they lost.

  14. joan a says:

what does the ribbon mean that they are all wearing

  15. Ruth Rossin says:

Tonight (8/7/18) Buzzy Cohen won Final Jeopardy. While Alex Trebek was talking to Linda (?), Buzzy clapped the middle player on the shoulder and offered his hand with a smile in a sportsmanlike way. All I could see then was the middle player’s index finger coming into the screen pointing at Buzzy, who pulled back, openmouthed, and backed up to the end of his desk. What was that about?? Was I see4ing things?
