Wordle Fun with Today’s Starter Word Suggestion

The New York Times Wordle Bot is currently using CRANE for its favorite starting word, apparently preferring N to the T in TRACE. If you would like to know how many letters from CRANE are in today’s Wordle solution, open the Wordle Oracle below. I’m also including a starter word that I think could help you more than CRANE or TRACE.

By now, just about everyone knows how Wordle became the latest in popular word games and how the New York Times bought it from its creator Josh Wardle for millions.

You play the game online once a day. You get six chances to figure out a 5-letter word. The game will tell you when you have a letter or letters that are in the word of the day. It will also tell you whether your correct letter is in the correct position (green) or not (yellow).

My first word was W O R T H. The T and the H showed up yellow so I tried T H A N K for my second word. Not only did the H come back green, the A and the N did, too. However the T was yellow. Now I knew for certain that the last 4 letters were H A N T, and the solution was obvious.

I sometimes see people on Twitter posting results of getting the right word in one or two tries. Personally, I have never figured out the right word on Wordle in less than 3 tries. That is why I use a different starting word everyday: to see if I get lucky and get it in one or two tries. I never cheat even though I know there are easy ways to do it. I would only be cheating myself. However, you can check if you suspect a word has already come out.

WORLDLE is for geography lovers. They show you the outline of a country. If your first guess is incorrect, they show you how far away you are from the right answer (in kilometers) and in which direction you should look.

Antiwordle is yet another wordle-based game with a twist. Rather than try to get the word in as few tries as possible, you have to try to NOT get it and the longer it takes, the better. If you want to give it a try, be sure to read the rules first.
