Today’s Final Jeopardy question (6/1/2018) in the category “Presidents: Born & Died” was:

Ian finished in the lead with $14,600. Jeffrey was next with $11,600 and Dan was in third place with $9,000.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS RICHARD NIXON?

Richard Milhous Nixon, 37th U.S. President, is the only POTUS born in California so far. He was born in 1913 in Yorba Linda in a house built the previous year by his parents. PresidentsUSA.net has some great close-ups of the house and plaques. Under a photo of Nixon’s gravesite, they note that he “holds the distinction of being the President who is buried closest to his birthplace.” Although he died in a New York City hospital in April 1994, his remains were transported back to Yorba Linda several days later.

Second FJ this year: Nixon also showed up in the 1/8/2018 match (the day before the 105th anniversary of his birth).

Dan got it right. He bet $4,000 for a $13,000 finish.

Jeffrey thought it was Herbert Hoover (born in Iowa). He lost his $6,500 bet, leaving him with $5,100.

Ian got it right, too. He bet $8,601 and won the match with $23,201. Ian Booth is the new Jeopardy! champ.

What was the question about ‘Cod’? I never heard of the answer.

  2. Louis says:

@John B you might be right about that. The question is what will happen in June or July if we do get at least four streakers (2 this month) (2 in the next month) without any leader curses? Let’s hope Ian can win a streak of games next week since he is a trade specialist.

So VJ, jeff had a great run but do you think he could be tournament of champion worthy? What did you think of his performance so far?

    • VJ says:

idk, Lou, remember last year when Austin got in the ToC even though his games were in this season? So that means we’ve really got June, July and at least September and maybe part of October, to fill out the field. I think they’ll just postpone the ToC like they did in 2017 till they have more 5x and more players, and I don’t think we’ll be seeing any 3x winners in it.

Dan should have bet 5.601, just in case Ian stayed put. Anyway, a better performance than I expected and now a weekend to relax.

    • John B. says:

Jeffrey is still at # 9 overall in the ToC list (just in front of Kate O’Connor by 500 bucks), so we might see him there, unless 7 players overtake him. But we are approaching the summer break and there was not exactly a flood of multiple champs so far, especially in the last 2 months or so. Before you know it the ToC will be upon us. So he has certainly a fighting chance.
