WHAT IS TURQUOISE?

Mindat.org says turquoise was “named from French “turques” or “turquois” meaning “Turkish” the original material found on the south slopes of the Al-Mirsah-Kuh Mountains (Iran), but which found its way to Europe via Turkey. The name was known at least as early as the 17th century C.E. Turquoise and members of its group were redefined by Foord and Taggert in 1998, with turquoise reserved for an end-member composition. Foord and Taggert (1998) also noted that most of the gem material labeled “turquoise” is inhomogeneous and that planerite is the most common constituent in commercial “turquoise”.

This related 1987 clue was a triple stumper, too: GEMS $500: The French called it the “Turkish stone”, but the finest comes from Nishapur, Iran

Dino had topaz. He lost his $3,001 bet and finished with $4,599.

Kyle came up with azure. That cost him $5,000, leaving him with $5,600.

Rob crossed out sapphire and was going for Prussian when time ran out. He lost $2,200 so he ended up with $22,100. Rob Salerno is the new Jeopardy! champ. Take a look at the Jeopardy! post he put on his website, TheRobSalerno.com. It’s funny!

Final Jeopardy (9/21/2018) Kyle Jones, Rob Salerno, Dino Alexander

ALTERNATIVES TO COACHELLA? ($1600) This word precedes “leopard dog” in the name of the official pooch of Louisiana

2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in “African Geography”

Yes, as I said: the clock starts again and who knows whether we get another at least 5 game winner or another mass infusion of 1 or 2, maximal 3 game winners? I’m still wondering if they will replace the ToC this year with the “All Star Game” and skip the ToC. As far as I know they did not postpone or cancel it officially. Yet we have still 6 three game winners on the ToC list, something that probably doesn’t sit too well with J……We’ll see. They have to make an announcement soon, because people will start asking ” Is there a ToC and when?”

  4. Louis says:

Well, Kyle had a great run and we will see him again in the Tournament of Champions. I guess Ryan and Josh are going to have some competition once they see him. Furthermore, this is the third final jeopardy question where no one got it right. But still Turqoise isn’t that hard to figure out right VJ? Also do you know which members of your family have the topaz or azure birthstones? Congratulations to Rob on his win as we will see him try to get a streak of wins like Kyle did previously. Let’s hope Rob can build some feeling and confidence for the final week of september. Plus, I can remember back in season 32 we had a streaker in cathy Hardee for four days, then matt jackson, seth wilson, Austin Rogers, and now Kyle Jones. It’s rare to see big winners in this month.

    • John Christian Ambion says:

@Louis I hope it will be a fluke.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, yes, I was surprised that no one got this. Looks like Kyle & Rob approached it by the shade of blue and not by a Eurasian country. Idk what Dino was thinking. Topaz isn’t even blue.

  5. VJ says:

I got the feeling that Rob is good in geography, which I always like.

Kyle had a good run and we’ll see him in the next ToC.

  6. John Christian Ambion says:

Well, Kyle’s streak has ended and the clock resets again.

This week has been very rough. It ended with a new champion, and before that, the WORST winner in AGT history has been named. Let’s see what the new Jeopardy! champion has in store, because I have a probability that it will be a fluke.

  7. aaaa says:

Not sure a new player has come in and had a lock game against a more than five champ before. Dino Alexander is a poster at Game Show Newsnet and has been in the online game show community for some time.

  8. Richard Corliss says:

    See ya later, Kyle.

  9. John B./I. says:

Congratulations to Rob and we reset the clock again.. I misread the clue entirely and thought they were asking for the country and that would have been Afghanistan with Lapis Lazuli.

Well, we had all bases covered except the complete whiff….
