Final Jeopardy: 9-17 to 9-21-18

Here are the Final Jeopardy questions and answers for the week of September 17 through September 21, 2018, the week that Alex Trebek went from the beard, to a goatee, then to the mustache. By Thursday, he was back to the clean-shaven look.

Remember the 3 straight triple solves from last week? Things were different this week. Tuesday’s clue was the only one everyone got. Two players got Wednesday’s FJ and the last 2 games of the week went completely south. Thursday’s clue got our vote for the hardest one of the week because it just was.

And by legend, The Jade Emperor was not Buddha or vice versa. Just one story said TJE summoned the animals, another one that Buddha did it. 2 different people, one real, one fictional. Yet since the legend existed I agree that they would have had to accept TJE as well. They really screwed that one up.

@John, yeah, well, I’m not gonna debate the thing. I’ll just clarify that on the recap.

imo, the players were much more likely to have heard of the Jade Emperor legend.

Right VJ, Thursday’s clue was the hardest. There are several legends and the clue was poorly written (ambiguous) if you will. It never even gave the possibility that there is more than one “legend”. I was not surprised about the triple whiff. The moment I had read the clue I said “No way that anyone gets this” and was right. Only after the answer was revealed they showed “The Jade Emperor” in parenthesis . And Buddha was not the Jade Emperor or vice versa.
An unfair clue, either on purpose or the writers were just off THEIR game, as sometimes is the case. A real shame, this is all they do, get paid for it and as I understand it, even Alex is reviewing the clue and makes suggestions to change some wording. Just to tough a FJ from several angles.

    • VJ says:

@John, they didn’t show the Jade Emperor in parentheses — Alex just said it was Buddha.

I put the Jade Emperor in myself because I believe they would have had to accept it as a correct response.

      • John B./I. says:

I see. Didn’t see the show myself that day, I thought they put it in as an alternative acceptable answer.
