We started Season 35 with triple solves in Final Jeopardy! for 3 straight days. One wonders if that will ever happen for the rest of the season! Then on Thursday, there was a complete bust. On Friday, only 2 players were left in Final Jeopardy! but that one was the hardest, at least for me and anyone else who doesn’t follow that sport. For the record, I don’t even think of figure skating as a sport — it’s an art to me.

Jeopardy! champs for the week of September 10, 2018

Reigning Jeopardy! champ, Rick Terpstra returned for his third game, the first game of the season and the first runaway. But on Tuesday, he lost to Lori Goodman. She lost to Kyle Jones on Wednesday and Kyle was a 3x champ by Friday. Lori had the biggest payday of the week and the first one over $30K.

Other firsts this week were the first time only 2 players were left in Final Jeopardy! and the first Dracula impression on the 6th clue of the first round of Wednesday’s game:

I LEARNED IT FROM MENTAL FLOSS ($200) Although Bela Lugosi resented the typecasting, he was buried wearing the signature cape of this character

Lori beat Alex Trebek to it when she responded correctly but Alex managed to get in a “good for you” in a Bela Lugosi voice. Jeopardy! has the whole “Mental Floss” category up on their youtube channel as well as the “TV Guide” category this week. In case you skip commercials, they also put up the 3 Team Captain videos that were shown last week, featuring Ken Jennings & Colby Burnett, Julia Collins & Austin Rogers and Brad Rutter & Buzzy Cohen.

VJ, do you think they are going to delay the Toc until fall of 2019? The last two were Nov. 2015 and Nov. 2017. With all the hype about the special team tournament, I think this might happen. I hope not!

@Marilyn, it sure looks like the next ToC won’t happen till Season 36. They just don’t have enough 5x or more winners. Right now there are only 2 tournament winners with guaranteed spots plus 5 people who have won 5 or more games. (ToC list) That’s 7 and there is only one person who won 4 games!

I’m not particularly thrilled about it myself because 2 more spots will get filled up by tournament winners if they have another teachers and college tourney before then.

But I am excited about the All-Star games. They said on Brad Rutter’s spotlight this past week, that he’s never been defeated by anyone except Watson. So if he doesn’t win the All-Star games, we can say that Brad should have retired undefeated, okay?
