Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “WAITRESS”?
In a 2015 article on 90.9 WBUR (Boston’s NPR News Station), American Repertory Theater Artistic Director Diane Paulus shares the story of how the 2007 film “Waitress” evolved into a musical that made it to Broadway in 2016. She elaborates on how the film resonated with her and how she “found her composer/lyricist outside the musical theater world in Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter Sara Bareilles.” (Sarah just won a Grammy at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards on 1/26/2020 in Best American Roots Performance For “Saint Honesty”) Paulus also talks about Jessie Mueller, her lead actress who previously won a Tony for her portrayal of Carole King in “Beautiful.” Jessie was also nominated for a Tony for her performance in “Waitress.”
An old clue from 2011: MOVIE WAITRESSES ($1200) As Jenna in “Waitress”, this “Felicity” star served up pies at Joe’s Diner
Tom drew a blank and had no reponse. He lost his $4,337 bet and finished with $263.
Terry wrote down “What is the answer to this clue.” That only cost him $420, leaving him with $10,380.
MacKenzie got it right. She didn’t bet anything so she won the game with her pre-FJ runaway score of $26,400. MacKenzie Jones is the new Jeopardy! champ.
A triple stumper from each round:
ENTERTAINMENT ($1600) A resort area in the Catskills where many Jewish entertainers got their start had this alliterative nickname

The “Survivor” category ate up too much that over $8,000 across six clues, including the other Daily Double, was wasted. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?! WHY DO YOU EAT TOO MUCH ON A SINGLE HELPING?!
Congrats to MacKenzie. Well played!
After that Survivors category taking up so much time, I didn’t expect the second round board to be cleared. Still it was a strange ending to the game. MacKenzie goes to the top row instead of looking for the other DD. She misses the “enumeration of inhabitants” clue with “Bill of Rights” and no one else picks it up. Amazing!
Maybe Mackenzie has what it takes to end the leader curse and build a streak of wins. That big daily double bet was a gutsy move as well and it paid off handsomely.
The last time that a big bet on a daily double was made in March 2016. Do you remember it, VJ?
What about Terry betting his whole $9,800 on the second DD on Friday, with only 3 clues left after it? That was a big bet in my book.
Maybe, MacKenzie will break this Carousel of 1-Day Champions tomorrow. Enough Is Enough.
Maybe tomorrow the contestants will clear the board completely. Enough is enough.
That too. I just didn’t think of the board.
I hope she can break the one-day curse and become 2x champion tomorrow. We shall wait and see.
