WHAT IS JACK DANIEL’S?

According to Jack Daniel’s website, in 1866 “The Jack Daniel Distillery is officially established, making it the very first registered distillery within the US, with Jack as the Master Distiller. The opening of his now-famous distillery would follow shortly thereafter, right next to Jack Daniel’s prime resource: the mineral-rich Cave Spring Hollow.” Later in the timeline under 2016 when they celebrated their 150th anniversary, it states that the distillery “registered with the federal government in 1866.” (Note: you have to put in your birthdate to read anything on that site.)

When it comes to booze, Tennessee labels its counties “dry”, “moist” or “wet.” A dry county prohibits or restricts the sale of alcohol and alcoholic beverages. It seems that Moore County has not been completely dry for some time. A November 2017 article in The Pilot reported that “establishments with ABC permits in unincorporated areas of Moore County can now sell alcohol starting at 10 a.m on Sundays.” (If you want to read that article, they’ll only let you look at it once, so don’t close it and think you can read it later!)

Kelly went all in and doubled her score to $16,400.

Patrick bet $3,801 and finished with $16,401

Connor bet $200 and won the game with an even $28,000. Connor Sears is the new Jeopardy! champ.

At first glance, I was thinking Jim Beam, but quickly came to my senses. None of the players knew what I only fairly recently found out: that Jack Daniel’s has an apostrophe.

Smart group tonight. They left a few of the gettable stumpers on the table (Christie title; Marlowe novel; bell tower). Connor’s 2 daring DDs proved too tough to catch up to. But that’s how you beat a tough champion.

    • Jason says:

You really think that the Christie title, the Marlowe novel, and the bell tower were easy? I’m a smart guy, and, I didn’t get them. I’m just sayin’.

      • VJ says:

I thought the book titles were easy, Jason, esp. the Marlowe novel. It shows up frequently.

I had to laugh at all three trying the bell tower. I wouldn’t have tried that one and I took two years of Italian!

Happy to see everyone getting final right. Also I hope Connor can get a streak going this week.

The FJ was pretty straightforward so I couldn’t imagine that any of the contestants would have gotten that wrong. Actually, that is the only charcoal filtered whiskey in the United States that I’m aware of, and for a premium brand, it’s only too bad that the distillery no longer uses the distinctive glass bottles.
