Felicity got the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “West Coast State Higher Ed” under the $1,000 clue on the very last pick of the round. She was in second place with $3,800, $1,200 behind Jeff and Shanon, tied in first place. She bet $1,300 and took a shot with the University of Washington. That was WRONG.

Jeff found the first Daily Double in “Nobel Literary Nominees” under the $1,200 clue on the 14th pick. He was in the lead with $11,800 now, $4,400 more than Shanon in second place. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

Jeff got the last Daily Double in “African Geography” under the $1,200 clue, with 2 clues left after it. In the lead with $17,400, he had $8,400 more than Shanon in second place. He bet $700 and guessed Mozambique. That was WRONG.

Jeff finished in the lead with $16,700. Shanon was next with $9,000 and Felicity was in third place with $8,500.

WHO IS JOSEPH PULITZER?
Joseph Pulitzer was a tireless champion of the free press, who bought and owned the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and New York World. He is most famous today for the annual prizes that bear his name in American journalism, photography, literature, history poetry, music and drama. Pulitzer also founded the Columbia School of Journalism and it was in support of his proposal to found a journalism school that he wrote the article containing the quote in the clue in The North American Review in May of 1904. The quote is in the last paragraph of the (very long) article. A summary is also included in his biography on Pulitzer.org right above the subheading “1912 – present”.

Felicity got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $17,000.
Shanon came up with “Hershel.” She lost her $7,000 bet and finished with $2,000.
Jeff chose Hearst. That only cost him $1,301 and landed him in second place with $15,399. Felicity broke the one-day champ curse with a 2-day total of $32,200 (and we got to see all the Daily Doubles, too!).

After two weeks of leader curses and eight games later, the leader curse has been broken. Congrats to felicity on winning her second game. We will see her after the college championship. Hoping she can go on a streak like Mackenzie did. Speaking of the Pulitzer, VJ do you know if any of the books on Sherlock Holmes won any of that prize for best mystery novel?
They don’t have a best mystery category, Lou, but check out the fiction category here. It has to be a novel by an American author, “preferably dealing with American life”
I just saw an article about Michael Chabon (he won a Pulitzer for a book that was in a recent clue– “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier” & this other title guy). He wrote a 2004 book that has something to do with Sherlock, “The Final Solution: A Story of Detection” but it’s set in England.
The prize is essentially for works by Americans. And nearly all of the Sherlock Holmes works were published before the first Pulitzers were awarded in 1917. I was a newspaper journalism major in college and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t think of Pulitzer tonight, but rather Sulzberger, the family that owned the NY Times for decades.
It took eight games to stop.
Well, I was only joking yesterday about crossing your fingers etc. In all seriousness, I’m very glad that we’ve still got new games to watch whether there is a new champ or a repeat champ, and that we still have Alex at the helm
Congrats to Felicity for breaking the one day curse of champions when she was the only player to get Final Jeopardy right. We won’t see her again in 2 weeks because starting Monday we will be seeing the Jeopardy College Championship. It’s gonna be fun.
My guess the semifinalists will be Sirad, Emma, Kayla, Sophie, Kylie, Londyn, Joe, Xiaoke, and Natalie.
