WHAT IS THE STYX?

In Dante’s “Inferno”, the Styx is in the fifth circle of Hell. Milton chose the words “hate” and “abhorred” in “Paradise Lost” to describe the Styx because that’s what the name of the river means. From thoughtco.com: “Best known, the river Styx is the principal river of Hades, circling the Underworld seven times thus separating it from the land of the living…. In Greek, the word Styx means to hate or abhor, and it was named after the nymph of the river, a daughter of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys.” This old clue agrees that Styx is the most well-known: The 5 rivers of Hell include Cocytus (of weeping) & Acheron (of grief), but this one (of hate) gets all the press”.

James Holzhauer got a Daily Double on one of the other rivers in the 14th game of the Masters Tournament last May.

Cody bet it all and doubled his score to $21,600.

Susan bet $7,401 and finished with $25,601.

David bet $12,663 and won the game with $37,463. He advances to the finals.

Can you just write the answer and not share your opinion. Nobody cares about your unrecognized opinion. Provide value. Leave the answer.

Nick, There are plenty of places you can find out “just the answer”. Perhaps you should visit them.

Very good players, although other than the stumpers, I thought the clues were pretty easy overall. Hang na is the only stumper I got.

Mythology always bored me, so I was semi-shocked when I guessed FJ. In this case, it was a hit but not a myth.

    • VJ says:

Howard, I also thought the clues were on the easy side though I did give Cody props for getting the first DD (capital of Botswana).

I was shocked that no one got the commander of the Continental Army.

“a hit but not a myth” — that was cute 🤣🤣

      • Howard says:

Thank you. I am known far and wide for my plays on words, often in subject lines of emails. Two nights ago, after Aaron Rodgers’ quick departure from the Monday Night game, my line was “Four-plays doesn’t always lead to ecstasy.” Also, the pilot flying over Met Life stadium radioing to the tower, “Rodgers, over and out.”

Unlike other Second Chance games, this one was a barn burner. I didn’t expect much, so, was really good to see!

This was an excellent game and all three players proved that they deserved another chance. We’ll find out who will join Jill and David in the finals tomorrow.
