WHAT IS PREGNANT?

Here is an entry for the 12/8/1952 episode of “I Love Lucy” from IMDB trivia: “CBS broadcast standards refused to allow the word ‘pregnant’ to be uttered by any of the characters, so they said that Lucy was ‘expecting’ instead. While this episode title uses ‘enceinte’, the French word for ‘pregnant’, the following episode (#2.11) uses the forbidden word in its title.” Indeed, IMDB lists the 12/15/1952 title as “Pregnant Women are Unpredictable.”

The Word Histories website compares the English “pregnant” to the French “enceinte” and says that in French, “the standard word for a woman’s pregnancy is une grossesse.

Ben got it right. He bet $601 and finished with $5,801.

Rachel drew a blank. She lost her $1,000 and was left with $4,800.

Nathan also got it right. He bet $199 and won the game with $11,999. Nathan Berger is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Ben’s missed DD (which wasn’t all that hard, but either you knew Pecos Bill or you didn’t) sealed his fate and handed Nathan a runaway. It was the right thing to do, though; getting the lead going into Final is crucial most times. And of course he’d have won some big bucks had he known that one, and qualified for game 4 tomorrow. He’ll never forget the name “Pecos Bill” again!

  2. VJ says:

Wow, I felt kinda bad for Ben. The time for the big DD bet was when he got that Alexander the Great clue under $800. 😟

    • Lou says:

Yeah I know what you mean VJ. It just wasn’t his day today. But still though he played.a pretty decent game despite missing the daily double yesterday and today. I thought he could have built a streak but it didn’t happen. Do you remember any of your close friends that you used to have as teachers that have kids or moved elsewhere to start a new teaching Job?

      • VJ says:

Yes, he had a good lead there. I had a bad feeling yesterday that his tiny DD bets would come back to haunt him. When he got that Alexander the Great DD, he only bet enough to regain the lead, when a bolder bet may have helped him stay in the lead whether he missed that last DD or not!

I don’t know why you guys are talking about teachers. What has it got to do with today’s game? In any event, I doubt if any of my teachers are still alive but God bless them, wherever they are (except the bad ones).

  3. Lou says:

Yeah this was the one that I knew from the top of my head. My previous elementary school teacher in Indiana had her first child before we moved. Then her second child came and their names were ben and Luke. The family moved to zionsville, IN and she now teaches kindergarten. Before that, she taught at Nora elementary school in Marion, Indiana.

  4. Richard Corliss says:

Speaking of that Final Jeopardy! answer, my high school teacher Ms. Molihan had her first child at December 2015, her name is Heva. She, Mr. and Ms. Molihan now live in Alexandria, VA. She used to teach at Granby High School in Norfolk, VA. She adopted a girl way before Heva was born.
