TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS TONI MORRISON?

Toni Morrison was an award-winning author. Among her many honors were a Pulitzer Prize for her 1987 novel “Beloved” and the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature. She was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. She died from complications of pneumonia on 8/5/2019 at age 88.

Oprah Winfrey promoted four Toni Morrison novels, (“Song of Solomon”, “Paradise”, “The Bluest Eye” and “Sula”) through her Book Club. Oprah also starred in the 1999 film version of “Beloved” as Sethe.

Matt was mouthing “Please, God!” during the think music. His prayers were answered with a correct response. He bet $6,100 and finished with $13,500.

Zach got it right, too. He added $9,995 to finish with $19,995.

Kelly went with Oprah’s mentor, Maya Angelou, who died in 2014. She lost her $6,601 bet and landed in third place with $6,799. That made Zach a 4x champ with total winnings of $85,669.

Cliffhanger! Reruns start on Monday, so we may not be seeing Zach return for that important 5th game for quite a while.

I had to rewind to hear Alex pronounce balaclava. I always say it like the pastry baclava. 🙂 Now, what to watch the rest of summer?

Kelly was so close in beating Zach but still that response of Maya Angelou cost her the win. She would have had 20001 dollars if she went with Morrison. Anyway congrats to Zach on his fourth win.

Zach Newkirk will get to enjoy those numbers all throughout the summer. He’ll be back in September when the coronavirus pandemic is all over.

    • Richard Corliss says:

I don’t think that’ll happen. Cause California has a lot of counties to fix up.
