WHAT IS “CHEERS”?

Set in an eponymous Boston bar, “Cheers” was an NBC situation comedy that ran for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993. The ensemble cast consisted of the bar owner, his employees and regular patrons, each with their own lovable quirks. “Cheers” formed a forever connection with Jeopardy! when ‘know-it-all’ postal worker, Cliff Clavin’s joke answer and foolish bet cost him the game.

The maximum capacity sign featured in today’s clue is mentioned on IMDB Trivia: Norm jokes that the tackiness of gossip is on a sign above the door. There is, in fact, a sign above the door. It reads, “Maximum room capacity 75 persons.”

Lily wrote down a Cliff Clavin-type response (“What is a TV show I don’t know”). Whether she knew that character was from “Cheers” or not, she lost $2,198 and finished with $2.00.

David came up with M*A*S*H. That cost him $11,111 and left him with $4,489.

Alex also thought it was M*A*S*H. He only lost $6,001 but he won the game with $19,199. Alex DeFrank’s 3-day total is $75,600.
