WHAT IS SARAJEVO?

The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945-1992) consisted of 6 socialist republics: Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia. B&H declared independence on 3/3/1992. On 4/6/1992, the USA and European Economic Community recognized B&H’s independence. That was swiftly followed on the same date by the Serbs laying siege to the capital city of Sarajevo. From thenagain.info: “Approximately 400,000 residents were trapped in the siege, and they were cut off from food, medicine, water, and supplies of electricity. Thousands of civilians were killed and wounded, and every imaginable offense against human rights was committed….”

A peace agreement known as The Dayton Agreement put an end to the Bosnian War about 3.5 years later. It was formally signed on 12/14/1995 in Paris. However, the siege of Sarajevo was not officially ended until 2/29/1996. In the aftermath, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) indicted and convicted several siege leaders of crimes against humanity. At least one, Momčilo Perišić, was released from prison after his conviction was overturned in 2013. The final appeal of another, Ratko Mladić, was just rejected last year on 6/8/2021 and his life imprisonment sentence was confirmed.

Ellen thought it was Kuwait City. She lost her $5,500 bet and finished with $1,500.

Christine got it right. She bet $2,201 and won the game with $14,001. Her 4-day total is $73,602.

  1. Howard says:

Jeopardy! screens potential contestants very well, but sometimes they just don’t get too many categories in their wheelhouse. Still, the three of them left way too many answerable clues on the table, either incorrect or untouched. The challengers today had no traction whatsoever. Ellen had a chance to seize the lead on her DD, but played too conservatively.

The Final was not that tough. And this old guy would have shone on that Backing Bands category.

    • VJ says:

@Howard, I loved that Backing Bands clue about the former Hawks (Ronnie Hawkins’ backing band) — I linked to a YouTube of “The Weight” in case they never heard it. They were the answer to FJ! 7 years ago

      • rhonda says:

I can’t believe that that FJ question was 7 years ago!!
I also loved the clue about the former Hawks, VJ, one of my favorite groups.

  2. Ryan McClelland says:

Congrats to Christine on winning her 4th game. It’s too bad Joe missed out on Final J!.

  3. Lou says:

Christine was pretty good on the buzzer today but I am happy that she bravely beat breast cancer. I think she has definitely broken the leader curse and the string of 3 game curses over the last three weeks. Still Christine definitely looks good to win game 5 and become the next streaker since Amy Schneider.

  4. Ismael Gomez says:

The clues weren’t nice to Joe.

  5. VJ says:

LOL, Kevin, pointing that out is hardly helping to normalize cancer recovery. I would think the whole point of “normalizing” it is not to point out either situation and just accept that it’s normal for some people to want to wear a wig and it’s normal for others to not want to wear one.

However, I have to think that she okayed Ken pointing it out on the show in order for her to explain her purpose.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

As you can see here Christine looks different than she was last week. During the chat she mentioned that she wants to normalize cancer recovery and is without her wig.
