3 different votes made a tie-breaker necessary. As the Strongest Link this round, Mary had to decide who would hit the dusty trail. Mary voted for Mark but now that she knew she was safe, she decided that Mark would be easier to beat. She made Abel the Weakest Link.

Jane Lynch: Congratulations, Mark, you are tonight’s Strongest Link and you leave here with $59,000. Well, Mary, they say all good things come to an end but, in your case, nothing good happened at all.
Mary: I had no strategy coming into this game except when it got towards the end, when it became much more competitive. I think Mark is a worthy winner, French fries or not.

It sure seemed like there might have been another tie-breaker question if those the last 2 questions were reversed. Mary’s No. 6 was tough so there was a chance Mark wouldn’t know that one. Mary was so sure Mark was wrong about the railroad, she definitely would have blown that one.
