Already Delayed Boston Marathon Has Been Cancelled

The Boston Marathon, normally held in April, was postponed to September due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, for the first time in 124 years, the marathon has been cancelled.

As an alternative, organizers have replaced the race with a virtual marathon. Participants will run the 26.2 mile distance on their own between September 7th and 14th, and with proper verification that they did indeed run the distance in less than six hours will get a participant’s medal. Qualifying times for the 2020 race will be used for eligibility for the 2021 marathon, scheduled for April 19th next year.
