With Matt Schaub Injured, Texans will Start Case Keenum at QB

Matt Schaub

The Houston Texans begin the season with high hopes of a run at the Super Bowl, but after losing four in a row it’s more about keeping the team from spiraling out of control.  Fingers are being pointed at alleged perpetrators of this outrage, none more so than quarterback Matt Schaub.

Though such a collapse is a team thing and can’t be pinned just on one player, Schaub is having a down season and does share some of the blame.  He had the dubious distinction of throwing interceptions that were returned for touchdowns in four consecutive games, and the fans have been all over him for that.  A Houston restaurant menu featured the Matt Schaub Special, where you could order six toppings for your burger “and pay dearly for it.”  A grocery store’s Halloween decorations included a tombstone for “Matt Schaub’s Arm”.  Then in last week’s loss to the St. Louis Rams, Schaub went down with a leg injury, to the cheers of some fans, a classless action that drew the ire of Schaub’s teammates.

Case Keenum Backup quarterback T.J. Yates took over, and threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.  That was obviously not an improvement; Schaub is still recovering from his leg injury and is out this weekend, so the Texans will start third string quarterback Case Keenum, a former University of Houston quarterback who had great success in college but has yet to play a down in the NFL.  Keenum will have to be on his best game, as the Texans travel to Kansas City to play the undefeated Chiefs.

We predict this will not end well.
