TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “ROMEO & JULIET”?
The clue at least narrowed it down to Shakespeare’s tragedies but if you know the second line of the sonnet prologue in “Romeo and Juliet,” you’re golden. “In fair Verona where we lay our scene” has produced a bunch of Jeopardy! clues. The last time it appeared was in a Daily Double on 9/19/2014

The sonnet does present an interesting question “Spoiler much, Will?” — it reveals what happens to the young lovers. The blog Shakespeare’s Diary says: “Why spoil the surprise? In fact, there was no surprise to spoil as Shakespeare’s audience was already fully aware of the story line from Arthur Brooke’s long poem The Tragical History of Romeo and Juliet (1562). Thus the real interest in the play is the manner in which Shakespeare will handle the tale. (In fact, this is Shakespeare’s usual methodology–he rarely invented a plot.)”

Frank got it right. He bet $600 and that brought him up to $12,000.

Kat thought it was Hamlet. That cost her $14,799. She was left with $2,001.

Scott also got it right. He bet $16,201 so he won the match with $33,601. That gives Scott a 2-day total of $59,602 as well as a spot on the Top 10 daily payouts of Season 34. Outstanding!

    Slow start, but strong finish for Scott.

    Romeo and Juliet one of my favorite plays. Do you have a favorite quote from this play,VJ? A few I remember were Romeo Romeo where for art thou romeo. Deny my father and through thy name, I will no longer be a capulet. The other was, I defy you stars! Congrats to Scott, now I hope he wins tomorrow to secure a toc spot. Plus, what other Shakespeare plays have you read previously?

    • VJ says:

      @Lou, I read Romeo and Juliet in high school in comparison to West Side Story and then we had to watch both. At that time, I really hated reading Shakespeare and Chaucer, though the Bard has grown on me since then and I’ve read a lot of his plays and sonnets and know a lot of quotes. I still love West Side Story and know all those songs, too.

    Congratulations to Scott! Now if he can win tomorrow and make it 3, he will probably surpass Ali and become # 9. Scott’s average so far is 29.801 and he is only 8.199 behind Ali.
    @ Doris
    Congrats as well, I guess you have a magic 8 ball hidden somewhere….so now it’s I who has to play catch up…

    Alex said when Scott’s response was revealed that he would have won even if he was wrong, because he would have still had the most money, when an incorrect response by him would have given Frank the win.

      @aaaa
      …if Scott didn’t wager more than 4.200, that is, right? That would have gotten him – even with a wrong response 12.001, 1 buck more than Frank. I believe when they come back from the commercial break, Alex has already he amounts and the responses on his card and knows before he even gets to the first player who won the game.
