WHO IS MARK TWAIN?

The chapters named in today’s clue are from “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”, a novel by Mark Twain that was published in 1889. The main character is Hank Morgan, a Yankee engineer from Connecticut, who travels back in time to England in the days of King Arthur and Camelot. Hank uses his knowledge of the 19th century to fool the people in Merry Olde England into believing he is a powerful magician. Clarence is a page in King Arthur’s court who becomes Hank’s best friend and assistant.

The book has been adapted to film several times, including a 1948 version starring Bing Crosby and Rhonda Fleming. A 1978 cartoon sent Bugs Bunny to King Arthur’s court.

Kirsten thought it was Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mark Twain’s neighbor in Connecticut. She lost her $3,399 bet and finished with a buck.

Arman got it right. He bet $5,205 and that brought him up to $19,205.

Sandy came up with Nathaniel Hawthorne. She lost her $9,000 bet for a second place finish of $10,200. That made Arman Ramnath the new Jeopardy! champ.

I think the overall quality of the players has decreased during covid. I think the number of people taking the online test during covid decreased and the player pool is slightly inferior to the norm.

  2. Howard says:

Oh, the irony. The English teacher blew the question on American authors. She’ll get some flak back home for that but at least took home some serious cash.

  3. Lou says:

Well at least all the daily doubles are nailed. congrats to Arman on his win. I visited the Mark Twain house and museum about 3 years ago and learned more about his life and work. That was a good learning experience for me as a connecticut native. I am hoping to visit more author homes later on this summer.

I didn’t think anyone would get it. (Sandy didn’t get the Jabberwock in her first game)

    Congratulations to Arman. Super cool!
