E.J. found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “College Towns” under the $600 clue on the 8th pick of the round. He was in second place with $1,000, $2,000 less than Dan’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and took a shot with Terre Haute. That was WRONG.

Dan found the first Daily Double in “Shakespeare Character” under the $800 clue on the 13th pick. He was in second place with $12,000 at this point, $2,200 less than E.J.’s lead. He bet $3,000 and thought it was Puck. That was WRONG.

“I see their knavery. This is to make an ass of me.” show

4 clues later, E.J. found the last Daily Double in “American Presidency Project” under the $800 clue. In the lead with $14,600, he had $4,400 more than Dan in second place. He bet $5,000 and tried “speeches.” That was WRONG.

Dan finished in the lead with $15,800. E.J. was next with $14,400 and Ben was in third place with $200.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS A VIEW-MASTER?

View-Master was the result of a collaboration between William Gruber, organ-maker and photography-lover, and Harold Graves of Sawyer’s Photographic Services. Introduced at the 1939 World’s Fair, the National Toy Hall of Fame has the lowdown on its success thereafter, including Disney’s role in its appeal to children. Mental Floss will tell you how, before that, the U.S. armed forces purchased more than 10,000 View-Masters and 6 million reels. In fact, that’s been in a Jeopardy! clue before.

From 2002: MILITARY MATTERS ($1600) First used to look at national landmarks, this toy was used in World War II for training in aircraft identification

Ben wrote down a shout out to his wife, Sarah. He lost his $116 bet, leaving him with $84.

E.J. got it right. He bet it all and finished with $28,800.

Dan came up with “Occulus.” He lost his $13,001 bet, landing in second place with $2,799. That made E.J. Wolborsky the new Jeopardy! champ.

Ben knew with $200 he had no real chance of winning, so there’s no reason to give a joke FJ! answer if you want. $28,800 was the winning total tonight, and it was the maximum about that could be won in the Money Cards on Card SHarks in its original 1978-81 run, on the day Card SHarks returns to TV on ABC.

VJ, I thought of you with the only football clue that I knew the answer to lol!

    • VJ says:

so funny, Rhonda! I thought of you, too. Also, I meant to mention yesterday that it was Joe Montana’s birthday.

They had that George H.W. Bush clue today, too, and today is the anniversary of his birth.

  3. JP says:

Good point with the Shakespeare clue. I said the first two, so I was thinking of the Ball State clue. Although I missed the third as well, missing the same hint.

  4. Lou says:

When I was young, I had a view master before moving to the northeast. But I’m surprised that no one nailed any of the daily doubles today. Ben couldn’t get anything going today as the other two guys were pretty quick on the buzzer. Also VJ did your kids also have the view master and any Disney related viewing cards like snow white, Mickey mouse and so forth? I’m not surprised that ej didn’t know where ball State university is since I used to live in Indiana. I really wonder if ej could build upon his win and break the leader curse.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, no, my kids didn’t have a View-Master. Even when I was a kid, I didn’t like toys that came with a lot of parts. My siblings always lost them for one thing. As for the View-Master, it was a double nuisance to me because I wore glasses (and sometimes got called “four eyes” lol). I would have to take them off to use it.

  5. Richard Corliss says:

There should be no shout outs in Final Jeopardy. The show had a new rule recently.

    • ZB says:

I think the rule just said that if you do a shout out, it will be considered as part of the answer. So if you are fine getting it wrong, you can still do a shout out

      • Albert says:

If a person gets FJ wrong and loses then a “shout out” seems like an acceptable consolation, imo.

  6. JP says:

Those first two Daily Doubles. Wow. Two of the most obscure Daily Double responses in quite a while. I can’t help but at least wonder if the writers made the board hoping to trip James up (assuming he made it this far).

    • VJ says:

I don’t think so, JP. Dan knew the play on his and just mixed up the characters. E.J. didn’t pick up on the “disapproval” hint
