WH0 IS FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE?
Florence Nightingale died at the age of 90 on August 13, 1910. “The Lady with the Lamp”, as she was known, had left instructions for a simple funeral but she received many tributes, including British royalty. Nightingale was particularly lauded for her service during the Crimean War, when she saved the lives of many soldiers. Just as she did not forget the veterans of Balaclava, they did not forget her. See Florence Nightingale’s obituaries.
Even after that war, when the veterans had fallen into poverty and neglect and Nightingale was herself an invalid, she joined Alfred, Lord Tennyson in launching a public appeal for funds to help her “dear old comrades of Balaclava”, when the British government would not grant them pensions.
Kristal came up with Queen Victoria. She didn’t bet anything, standing pat on $800.
Chris went with Clara Barton. He lost $1,199 and finished with $1,601.
Caleb got it right. He bet $10,000 and won the game with $37,800. That gave Caleb a 7-day total of $201,000. Most impressive, especially when you remember that Caleb started out this week with $31,199 from his first 2 games!e
