Imo Ivory was playing as if he thought he had some unearthly way of catching Amanda. There was no earthly way he could have done that even if he got both DD responses correct. She was on cruise control and knew her stuff. Amanda couldn’t be caught. During these tournaments it seems to me some contestants forget about the wild card spots. Instead their strategy is more along the lines of “wager big or go home.” Hence, Ivory went home. I hope the rest of the Teacher’s Tournament doesn’t play out like it did tonight. I’m hoping the contestants will remember the wild card spots when wagering on a DD.

  2. Howard says:

Amanda was superb, as smart and quick as most “regular” players, but a science teacher not knowing the blue element?

  3. Collin Ho says:

The episode is taped in February 2020

  4. Richard Corliss says:

    Semifinalists:
    Amanda Baltimore: $17,600

    Wild Cards:
    Peter Gouveia: $6,399
    Ivory Johnson: $0

I am not sure which way I heard this. Did Amanda refer to Commodore Perry as Admiral Perry when she answered the question about opening up Japan to trade with the US.? Alex said “yes, Commodore Perry.” This is what I thought I heard. I cannot rewind the show but one said Admiral and one said Commodore. If Amanda said Admiral that was incorrect. Matthew C. Perry was a commodore, not an admiral. Admiral PEARY was the guy who had the expedition to the North Pole. So if Ivory was wrong for adding an “s” to Deuteronomy, why wasn’t Amanda wrong if she called Perry “Admiral”?

    • VJ says:

Nana, Amanda did say Admiral Perry and Alex said Commodore so you heard right. A lot of places online say that Perry was promoted “to the grade of rear-admiral on the retired list.” I don’t know if they got it from wikipedia or wikipedia got it from one of them but, if that’s the case, then I would think either title would work.

Ivory added an ‘S’ to Revelation

  6. Ismael Gomez says:

Unimpressive start the teacher’s tournament as all 3 DDs were missed resulted our ninth skunking.

  7. VJ says:

I think Amanda played splendidly today. Peter did quite well keeping up. Tough break on FJ!

I just wished Ivory had not bet the farm on his two DDs. It seemed to me that he decided beforehand that he would bet everything if he got a DD. In Round 1, he missed 2 bible clues before getting the DD on last clue of the game in the same category. If it was me, I would think “I probably won’t know that either” and bet low. lol

In Round 2, he got the DD right after a triple stumper and now, there was one clue left after the DD. He did get the $800 clue in this category right, so maybe he thought he had a better than average shot at it. I yelled “Don’t do it, dude!” at the screen. I wanted him to at least hold back a grand so he could play FJ!

  8. Lou says:

Wow ivory, I thought that he had a shot at the wildcard and yet he blew his chances for the semi-finals. This is probably the worst start to the teachers tournament with one player eliminated early. Still no one should get confused between cobalt and copper because any middle school students studying rocks or minerals should know this. This is just dismal.

    Ivory, darn those Daily Doubles.
