WHO IS CARMEN?

“Carmen” is the ill-fated gypsy in Prosper Mérimée’s 1845 novella about obsessive love and jealousy. Mérimée was inspired to write the tale by Napoleon III’s mother-in-law, the Countess de Montijo.

In the English Librivox translation on YouTube, it is the jasmine that hints at her seductive powers when Carmen first appears in Chapter 2: “In her hair, she wore a great bunch of jasmine, a flower which at night exhales a most intoxicating perfume. She was dressed simply, almost poorly, in black as most work girls are dressed in the evening…. When she drew near me, the woman let the mantilla which had covered her head drop on her shoulders and, by the dim light falling from the stars, I perceived her to be young, short in stature, well proportioned and with very large eyes.” The short skirt and bare shoulders show up in Chapter 3 when she meets Don Jose.

Oh, and, I was thinking – Allison looks really familiar. Was she a prior contestant?

  2. Howard says:

Must confess, missed the show entirely watching my hockey guys win in OT.
Final DD and FJ pretty tricky, the middle DD re Canadian province was not.

Mucho stumpers! Is that some kind of record? So many were gettable: the Doors’ frontman (whom I saw perform in 1967); Tom Sawyer’s guardian; Liz Taylor portrayer; Machado’s team; journalism prize; diplomat who won Nobel Peace Prize; Diane Warren song.

      Thanks, Howard. It’s fixed.

Howard, I got all the stumpers you got except the baseball clue. (I rarely try to answer any of them).I also got the other 2 wimmens in TV Movies

I wonder what the result would be if we asked 100 people the real name of the Lizard King. I’d put money on over 50.

Allison was going for Lady Chatterley. I can tell the scribbles on her response in Final Jeopardy!.

  3. Rick says:

Drat! Today’s Jeopardy game was preempted by local weather reports for severe weather in West Michigan. Even worse, the show won’t be televised later on. Oh well.

    • Jason says:

You didn’t miss much. It didn’t SEEM like a slow game, or an error fest, or a low scoring affair, but, it was. All clues were revealed in the first round, but, I think, 2 were left unrevealed in the DJ round; might have been 3.
