Final Jeopardy: Shakespeare’s Tragedies (5-14-20)

Today’s Final Jeopardy question (5/14/2020) in the category “Shakespeare’s Tragedies” was:

He has 272 speeches, the most of any non-title character in a Shakespeare tragedy

Today we’re watching the second game in the fourth match in the Greatest of All Time Tournament (original airdate: 1/14/2020). Ken Jennings has two wins now and a big lead from Game 1 (65,600). James Holzhauer has one win and 34,181 from Game 1. Brad Rutter has yet to win a match. With nothing to add from Game 1 of this match, his prospects are dismal indeed.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS IAGO?

Open Source Shakespeare has an amazing compilation of all Shakespearean characters’ lines, including Iago’s. Perhaps Iago’s most well-known is: “O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-ey’d monster, which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”

Actors who have portrayed Iago on film include Kenneth Branagh in 1995, Bob Hoskins in 1981 and Frank Finlay in 1965. Justino Diaz portrayed him in the 1986 Franco Zeffirelli-directed version of Verdi’s opera, “Otello”, with Placido Domingo in the title role. In the 19th century, Edwin Booth and his father, Junius Brutus Booth, gave notable performances as Iago on the stage.

Brad wrote down “You’re the best, Alex,” and said “It’s true and I should get credit for it.” He didn’t bet anything though, so he finished up both games with 1,400 points.

Ken got it right. He bet nothing as well. He had 23,000 + 65,600 for a total of 88,600.

James went with Horatio (109 lines in “Hamlet”). He bet it all and that left him with the 34,181 from the first game.

Final Jeopardy (5/14/2020) Brad Rutter, Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer

And that will conclude this fantastic match between these jeopardy legends. Congrats to Ken on the big win today and the participants. Still I have to say he would definitely have handed that defeat to Nancy during his previous run. Overall Ken has been dominant throughout the entire game.
