WHAT IS BLOOMSDAY (BLOOM’S DAY or June 16th)?
Every year since 1924, fans of James Joyce (aka Joyceans) get together on June 16th to celebrate Bloomsday. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of “Ulysses”, Joyce’s 1922 modernist novel. The novel begins at the Sandy Cove Martell Tower that is now the James Joyce Tower and Museum.
Why June 16th? “Ulysses” takes place over the course of one day: June 16th, 1904. Joyce chose that date to commemorate his first date with his future wife, Nora Barnacle. Learn more
Nicco had no response. He also had no bet, standing pat on his $400.
Zach got it right with Bloom’s Day. He bet $1,000 and finished with $7,600.
James came up with “the day of the locust”, just like that in lower case. He lost $198, but won the game with the remaining $33,002. Jamie’s 31-day total is $882,605.
