Today’s Final Jeopardy question (2/21/2020) in the category “International Award Trophies” was:

La Maison Chopard crafts this annual award’s crystal base & 118-gram, 18-carat frond

4x champ MacKenzie Jones, a program development director from Tulsa, OK, went over the $100K mark yesterday by $11,202. In Game 5, she is up against: Kimberly Brazier, a social advertising strategist from Queens, NY; and Jon Fuhrman, a retired IT manager from Pasadena, CA.

Round 1 Categories: Familiar Phrases – Ooo, Sorry – You’re Out of the Hole – Make a Selection – & Finally… – The Writers Are Trying to Be Clever

Jon found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Familiar Phrases” under the $600 clue on the 7th pick of the round. He was in second place with $400, $200 less than Kimberly’s lead. He bet the $1,000 and responded with the litmus test (and not in the form of a question either). That was WRONG anyway.

“Passing” this “test” originated with using it to dissolve substances to see if they were really gold or not. show

MacKenzie finished in the lead with $6,200. Jon was second with $2,000 and Kimberly was last with $1,800.

Round 2 Categories:Pulitzer-Winning Journalism – Food & Drink Movie Quotes – In the Arts World – You Killed Me! – South American Places – 3 “M”

Jon found the first Daily Double in “Pulitzer-Winning Journalism” under the $800 clue on the 15th pick. He was in third place with $800 at this point, $9,000 less than MacKenzie’s lead. He bet the $2,000 allowance and he was not only RIGHT, he answered in question form right away!

The Boston Post won in 1921 for its exposure of the scheme of this Italian con man. show

Jon found the last Daily Double in “South American Places” under the $1,600 clue, with 5 clues left after it. In third place with $6,800, he had $4,200 less than MacKenzie’s lead. He bet $5,000 and tried the Playa del Oro. He didn’t put it in question form, but that was okay because it was WRONG.

Magdalena, Argentina & Las Piedras, Uruguay are on opposite sides of this waterway. show

MacKenzie finished in the lead with $10,600. Kimberly was next with $9,800. At $200 in the red, Jon was out of the game.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE PALME D’OR?

The Palme d’Or trophy is “an emblem since 1998 crafted by Chopard.” In 1997, Pierre Viot, then director of the Cannes International Film Festival, invited Caroline Scheufele to redesign the Palme d’Or trophy which, for 50 years, was a gold plated palm leaf resting on a Plexiglas pyramid. Its design had remained unchanged for 50 years. Scheufele, who is currently Artistic Director and Co-President of Chopard, took up the challenge. Her creation was unveiled for the first time at the 1998 Cannes Festival. Learn more about it, including the award’s symbolism, on Chopard.com

At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Bong Joon Ho won the Palme d”Or for “Parasite (2019).” He also won Best Director at the 2020 Oscars and the film won Best Picture.

Kimberly went with the BAFTA. (See that award here). She lost her $7,000 bet, finishing with $2,800.

MacKenzie got it right. She added $9,001 to her score, winning the game with $19,601, as well as a definite invite to the next ToC. Her 5-day total is $130,803.

Well, it’s Jon’s own fault, he hates phrasing his response in the form of a question.

  2. JH says:

    Jack Ruby shot JFK?

    • Lou says:

that’s what jon thought but we all know that lee Harvey Oswald did the actual killing. Jack ruby killed Oswald. Jon probably got them mixed up due to nervousness.

    Dear Alex,

My husband and I trust that you will be around for years to come. Jeopardy was an educational game show. You have been a part of our lives for years. We pray that the cancer cells will be eradicated totally from your blood, tissues, muscles & joints (entire body system).

The last person to have swept a week of shows whose run started on a Monday: Alan Lin, from April 24, 2017.

  5. VJ says:

I guess Jon wasn’t a big fan of rock ‘n roll. Thought he would know that Eddie Cochran hit song.

Well, I called my Congressman and he said quote:
“I’d like to help you, son, but you’re too young to vote”

    🤣🤣

  6. Lou says:

Wow, and I thought today’s final would have ended Mackenzie’s streak but it didn’t. There is a zero missing in our champion’s fifth game win, VJ. And so a second dismissal this year from jon due to him not phrasing two of his responses in two of the daily doubles. We now have ended the week with Mackenzie getting five wins, one triple stumper, and only One or two people getting final. Speaking of this high film honor that parasite got, are you planning to buy the DVD movie of it later on? I only know that the movie is English subtitled and the language is Korean.

Do you get the feeling that we are getting more lady streakers than the men on jeopardy?

  7. klm says:

I honestly thought today’s FJ would be Mackenzie’s undoing, but she’s the real deal. Amazing!
