WHAT IS THE BULL?

“Black Monday” in 1987 refers to the drastic global stock market crash that occurred on Monday, October 19, 1987. While fears of the return of the Great Depression loomed, one man got an idea to inspire people to face adversity with strength and courage. Arturo di Modica was a Sicilian sculptor who came to the United States in 1970 whose works were initially ignored. Undaunted, di Modica began a campaign of “guerilla art”, where he would leave his works in prominent public places so they could not be ignored.

After “Black Monday”, di Arturo spent two years on the sculpture that became known as the Charging Bull. In December 1989, he and his crew hauled the bull down to Wall Street and deposited it under a Christmas tree. The bull was initially taken away but public clamor brought it back to Bowling Green Park near Wall Street, where it stands to this day, both as a symbol of perseverance and courage as well as a major New York City tourist attraction.

Tammy didn’t bet anything, standing pat on $8,800.

Ben bet $6,001 and finished with $17,601.

Greg didn’t bet anything, having already won the game with an unbeatable $29,000. He advances to the finals.

Ken seemed a little stilted today. Choppy, even, at some points. And he did mis-speak – he referred to “our champs”, and I said to myself, “Not a one!”

Greg was canny on the DDs. I could see Ben doing his hardest, trying to at least halve Greg’s score. Incidentally, when they were introduced, Ben’s velvet jacket kinda caught my eye (and not in a vaguely positive way).

    Overall, though, a good game!

Not surprised they all got Final; it’s a pretty well-known piece of work. I know of the statue but can’t recall if I saw it when I visited Wall St in 2014.

The 2 missed rhyming trees weren’t tough, and I figured one would know the multitude of (blank).

It was a great game, but I was stumped in FJ. Actually, I was only surprised that all three of the contestants got FJ right, and congratulations to them! Yes, I surely remember the stock market crash of 1987. Actually, the reason for the crash was rather technical in nature, and not based on any fundamentals whatsoever.

Greg had one of the best-played games all season. Kudos to him. For the second day in a row, we saw a back-to-back daily double. It’s the first time that two consecutive days this season, we saw a back-to-back daily double.
