Today’s Final Jeopardy question (12/18/2019) in the category “Plants & Trees” was:

One of Britain’s few native evergreen trees, it’s prized for bringing color to winter, & its foliage is often hung in homes

New champ Rodolfo Yuichiro Bedoy, an IT Project Manager from New York, NY, won $18,799 yesterday. In Game 2, he takes on these two players: Christine Hurt, a law professor from Orem, Utah; and Dave Algase, an information professional & writer from Saline, MI.

Round 1 Categories: On the First Lady’s IMDB Page – The Sporting Life – Baskin-robbins’ 31 Original Flavors – Peaceful Words – Place on Earth – Good Wheel Toward Men

Christine finished in the lead with $14,178. Rodolfo was next with $11,200 and Dave was in third place with $5,200.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS HOLLY?

The Heart of England Forest’s website has an article on the long-time uses of holly by the Romans and early Europeans and the Celts, also noting: “With the spread of Christianity, holly took on a new meaning, symbolising the crown of thorns worn by Christ during his crucifixion, while the red drop-like berries signified his blood.”

English Holly (Ilex aquifolium) is No. 7 on The Spruce’s list of “18 Species of Holly Plants.”

Dave got it right, after nixing mistletoe. He added $3,018 to finish with $8,218.

Rodolfo knew that was bad news because he stuck with mistletoe. He lost his $11,199 bet and was left with a buck.

Christine wrote down “fir.” She lost $8,223 and had $5,955 left. That made Dave Algase the new Jeopardy! champ.

“Ack” there’s no Jeopardy here because the hearings are still going on.

    • Lou says:

Same here, Rhonda. Come on ABC! Show some restraint! Give us jeopardy and Wheel instead of that impeachment crap! How is that a special report and how is it historic? That station can do a lot better than that.

    • Ryan McClelland says:

Don’t even know when the impeachment hearings will end. Do you?

  2. Lou says:

Christine was trying to do what james did previously but those daily doubles in the second round eluded her. The hint deck the halls should have led her to the right response. But still 8000 dollars for Dave isn’t bad, just hope he can build up on his win.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, oh, they surely would have known it if they had a “deck the halls” hint. I didn’t know it myself this morning till I got an email that said that. I was thinking in terms of Christmas trees before that!

    Dave sure played spoiler.
