We all came up with ‘buffalo’ for FJ, and that seemed logical. As for the bull moose, its habitat is actually located all across the northern regions of the continental United States along with Canada and Alaska.. As such, it is not strictly confined to the western part of the country, and perhaps that was what threw us off.
The description in the clue comes from Chapter VIII of T.R.’s 1888 book “Ranch Life & the Hunting-Trail” — where he talks about taking his 2 men with him to recover a stolen boat. It’s the only reference to bull moose in the whole book.
Congrats to Tyler. I wasn’t really surprised he got it. I was surprised that Yungcheng didn’t.
Last June they had this clue about Trebek’s favorite animal: THE ANIMAL KINGDOM ($800) We hate to let a season pass with no mention of Alex Trebek’s favorite animal, this 750-lb. Arctic ruminant with curved horns
Things sure changed quickly. They didn’t miss much tonight. The Jeremy Bentham quote was the only stumper I guessed correctly. I thought the Redford/Fonda film would be a stumper, but it wasn’t. Pretty sure I saw it at the time at Radio City. FJ answer made perfect sense–once I saw what Tyler wrote.
