TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE NORTH SEA?

Back in the ancient day, Britain was a peninsula, connected to mainland Europe by “Doggerland”, a land bridge. Much of the area, including the North Sea, was covered with ice that melted and eventually completely eroded and submerged the land bridge, forming the English Channel and making Britain into an island.

Today, the bodies of water that surround Great Britain are the North Sea, Irish Sea, English Channel and Atlantic Ocean. If you at least knew that much, you stood a good chance of getting this FJ!

Yoshie got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $18,400.

Dave had no FJ! answer, giving a shoutout to his mom and kids instead. He didn’t lose a farthing, standing pat on $11,800.

Emily also got it right. Having already won the game with $25,800, she bet nothing. Emily Sands is the first finalist.

One of those rare nights when I hit all 3 DDs and FJ. The final category made me cringe, but it was pretty much a cinch. Ike was president when I was born, and I thought that picture of John resembled him quite a bit. Yoshie’s a fellow senior, and I thought she might nail that one.

Good game, considering it was a runaway. Those DDs were critical for Emily, although Dave whiffed on FJ, so she’d have won anyway without a lock game.

Shocked that no one knew the name of the California wine. Never understood how they’ve gotten away with that appellation, when the French are so protective of it. Figured out the Strauss waltz once two players blew it.

lol, Howard, I wasn’t looking at the TV when that Presidents’ Kid DD came up (kinda like you’re not noticing the category yesterday). I’m certainly old enough to have noticed the resemblance.

Re Yoshie: I like what she said about gleaning experiential knowledge as opposed to cramming. I brought a World Almanac down to LA and arrived a couple days early. I studied the usual stuff: presidents, capitals, royalty, none of which ever came up. what hurt the most was the almanac had a colorful section of world flags that I looked over. And then blew a question about how many red rectangles there are on the Canadian flag.

It’s not official, but I THINK my friend who was on in mid-July may have gotten a call for 2nd chance. She hinted at it last night on Facebook but would not divulge the source.

A slam dunk for FJ as it was only too obvious.

  3. VJ says:

Like Emily, I said Tyler on that first DD, forgetting that was his grandkids.

John Tyler was very randy, baby! He had 15 kids (8 w/first wife, 7 w/second. His last child, Pearl, was born in 1860 when he was 70. She died in 1947, 100 years after his first daughter died.

I mean, I’m 53, and I recognized that guy from his pic. Looks just like his Dad!

I got all 3 DD, but, thought the writers were trying to be cute, and I said “English Channel” for Final

However, I DID say that Yoshie didn’t have it. Didn’t have Emily on my bingo card. But, there she is!
