WHAT IS BELIZE?

The Mopan River originates in the Petén Department of Guatemala. Crossing into Belize and flowing through the Cayo District, it merges with the Macal River to form the Belize River at Branch Mouth in San Ignacio. That is 20 something miles from Belmopan, Belize’s capital city. Some sources say that the capital city’s name is a combo of the Belize and Mopan Rivers. Perhaps that combo was chosen (as opposed to Macal), because the Mopan are indigenous Mayan people with their own language, also known as Mopan.

Ashley went with Panama. She lost her $3,199 bet and finished with a dollar.

Anand came up with Brazil. That only cost him $1,299, leaving him $10,001.

Erica also thought it was Panama. She lost $6,301 so she ended up with $9,999. That made Anand the new Jeopardy! champ by a $2 margin.

And so the leader curse continues right up before the tournament of champions.. If any of these contestants were geography or history buffs, they would have gotten belize. But still vj, one question on my mind is: are the mopan people related to the Incans or the Aztecs in the cuzco empire down in South america like Emperor Pachicuti or El dorado, the leader of the incas in Machu Picchu?

I got a kick out of Anand’s chat story when he ran into David Byrne. I can sort of relate from this time I got it into my head that I wanted to interview some of the 50s singers that I loved while they were still around. I thought I was a cool customer but when Lloyd Price called me on the phone, I almost fainted. LOL!

@Lou, no, the Mayans were a separate civilization from the Incans and Aztecs. This infographic will give you a quick overview.
