Shameless Recap: Found (Season 9 Finale)

The final episode of Shameless Season 9 opened up with Fiona looking at the $100,000 check she got from Max Whitford, and as we know, this episode is Fiona’s swan song and it looks like she’ll be going out in style.

Fiona put her big check under her mattress and went to the kitchen to make coffee. Frank started hollering for some Oxy but she blew him off because Debbie had made a schedule for everyone to take turns caring for him and it wasn’t her shift. Later she went to the Alibi where she told Veronica about her windfall and then she went to court for her preliminary hearing on the assault charges filed by the “lemonade lady.” Her attorney got the charges down to a misdemeanor and the ADA agreed to settle the matter for $2,500 and time served. The fine was no problem for Fiona now so all she had to do was plead guilty and apologize to the court for being an idiot and that weight was off her shoulders.

And I’m thinking maybe it’s time for me to go. ~ Fiona

Fiona went to visit Ian in prison and he was the first person that she told that she was thinking of flying the coop, though she didn’t know exactly where. “Someplace else like somewhere near the equator,” she said, because she was sick of cold winters. To her surprise, Ian told her she should. “Go as far away from here as you can, and don’t ever look back, okay?”, adding “We’ll always be here for you.”

Meantime, Debbie discovered that Liam moved in with Todd and his grandmother. A scene was shown where he had asked permission during a particularly chaotic Gallagher evening. Liam asked Debbie if he could move to Todd’s and she said “Fine!” without even registering what he was really asking for. This was really dumb if you remember when Liam went on the cruise with his rich friend from the Hopkins Academy. He asked Frank’s permission for that. Debbie came back later and told him to come home but he refused on the grounds that he was black and they had never done anything to surround him with his own cultural and racial heritage. Another draw at Todd’s was that his grandma cooks real food every night and he gets Lucky Charms for breakfast. Liam said he is “a young, proud man of African descent trying to find his identity in today’s white America,” and gave Debbie a list of 46 demands that must be met before he will consider coming back home. We suppose that’s fodder for Liam’s storyline next season. Maybe they will even write in some kind of mixup with the test that previously proved he was Frank and Monica’s biological son.

This baby’s gonna come out with, like, five heads and a dorsal fin. ~ Tami

Tami’s test result were “baby good.” Like her sister, Cami, having a baby will decrease her chances of dying from breast cancer. She still wanted to have an abortion because she works in a hair salon and breathes bleach fumes all day. Then she wanted to have the baby and give it up for adoption. Then she got mad because Lip wasn’t down with that and mentioned the “M” word (marriage). She got her in her car and drove off, leaving him to find some other way to get back to work. Hopefully, the baby won’t inherit Tami’s manic mood swings.

Carl and Debbie teamed up to execute an early morning revenge mission on Kelly’s truck. They spray painted the side of it, put 19 nails in her tires and set about putting sugar in the gas tank but while they were getting the gas cap off, the car alarm went off and Kelly saw them. She confronted Debbie who accused her of breaking Carl’s heart and told her that Carl was quitting military school now and accepting a job as a manager for Captain Bob. Debbie said it was totally on Kelly that Carl was throwing his life away. Kelly went to Carl’s job, tied him up and hauled him out of there, telling Lori that he quit. Their romance was back on when she asked him if was ready to go back to being the man she loves.

After Debbie and Lip found out that Fiona was packing her bags, Lip decided they would throw a big going away party for her, but while they were out getting the supplies, Fiona just left. There was no tearful farewell. She left an envelope for Debbie on the refrigerator with a check for $50,000 and she had a brief exchange with Frank on the way out. He thanked her and said “You did a good job. Monica wasn’t up to it. You stepped in and helped.” When she objected that she did it all, he sourly responded: “Yeah, well, if that helps you sleep better.” Fiona said “See you around, Frank,” and he said he doubted it. If you were expecting Jimmy/Steve to appear on the train or on the airplane, he never did.

The word is we will find out where Fiona went next season.
