San Antonio Spurs Win, Keep Pace with Golden State
The Golden State Warriors are having a tremendous 2015-16 season. The defending NBA champs are 55-5 on the season, and may break the Chicago Bulls’ record of 72 victories in a season set 20 years ago. The Warriors are having such a great season that a team that isn’t too far behind is having a hard time getting noticed. That would be the 52-9 San Antonio Spurs.
The Warriors and Spurs are running away with the Pacific and Southwest division titles, but the race between them is all about being the top seed in the Western Conference. San Antonio is 3½ games back. But despite winning nine of 10 and having a seven game winning streak, the Spurs have made up no ground. That’s because Golden State also has a seven game winning streak and has won nine of 10. San Antonio beat New Orleans 94-86 on March 3rd behind a 30 point 11 rebound performance by Kawhi Leonard.
While the Spurs were beating the Pelicans, Golden State was pounding Oklahoma State 121-106.
The Spurs still have a chance to catch up to the Warriors. The teams have three games left with each other. San Antonio will host Golden State on March 19th and April 10th, and the teams will meet in Oakland on April 7th. Both teams are undefeated at home this season.

Yes! The Spurs quietly who won as many titles in 10 years as the Celtics did with Larry Bird (and took LeBron and the Heat to a 7th game). I’m still far from convinced that the Warriors would have beaten a healthy Cavs team last year. Also, the playoffs tend to be more physical. Quite simply, there is no way the Warriors should be 5/8 to win the championship.
