Eleventh Ranked Texas Upsets #2 Gonzaga

If there was any doubt that Texas would be a serious national contender in college basketball—and there shouldn’t have been much doubt as the Longhorns are ranked #11 in the country—it should have been put to rest after the game between the Longhorns and #2 Gonzaga in Austin on November 16th.

Led by Tyrese Hunter’s 26 points, Texas built a ten point lead at halftime and cruised to a 93-74 victory. Gonzaga (2-1) didn’t help itself by committing 20 turnovers, but the Longhorns (3-0) simply dominated the game, building up a 23 point lead in the second half. The Longhorns also played good defense, keeping the Bulldogs in check.

Texas has what should be a couple of easy wins against Northern Arizona and Texas-Rio Grande before hosting #10 Creighton on December 1st and #19 Illinois on December 6th. Gonzaga will host current #4 Kentucky on November 20th. Some of the luster will be off that game as each team now has one loss.
