Rockies Sweep Weekend Series From Blue Jays, Win Eighth Straight

The Colorado Rockies got home runs by Nolan Arenado and Chris Iannetta en route to a 5-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Denver on June 2nd. The Rockies swept the three game series from the Jays, giving them eight wins in a row and nine victories in their last 10 games.

Arenado is having another monster season. Through June 2nd, the 3rd baseman is hitting .345 with 16 homers and 52 RBIs and an OPS of 1.033. But as usual, the Rockies have plenty of hitting. Shortstop Trevor Story has 15 homers and 42 RBIs, centerfielder Charlie Blackmon is hitting .300 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs in 46 games (he’s currently on the injured list), and 25 year old third year outfielder David Dahl is hitting .331 in 49 games and may be emerging as a key component after being a part time player his first two years.

Through June 2nd, the Rockies were 31-27. Despite the winning streak, the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers were also 9-1 in their last 10 games, and held a nine game lead over Colorado. At 41-19 L.A. had the best record in the National League.
