Red Sox’ Raphael Devers Putting Up Big Numbers

The Boston Red Sox are struggling to reach the post season, but there isn’t anything wrong with their hitting. Among the many productive hitters in the lineup is third baseman Raphael Devers. Devers was three for five with an RBI and three runs scored in Boston’s 11-0 rout of the Padres in San Diego on August 23rd. The game also featured a two home run, seven RBI performance from J.D. Martinez.

Through August 23rd, Devers was hitting 331 with 27 homers, 106 runs scored, and an American League leading 48 doubles and 103 RBIs. Devers was the first player in the majors to reach 100 RBIs this season, doing so in a four hit, four RBI performance in Boston’s 13-7 win over Baltimore on August 18th:

Devers is just 22 years old and made his debut with Boston in 2017, playing in 58 games. In 2018, he hit .240 with 21 homers and 66 RBIs in 121 games, not bad for a 21 year old, but this is clearly a breakout season.
