Ray Donovan Recap: The Transfer Agent (S7 E7)

Ray certainly showed his creative side when it came to smoking out Sandy and Mickey in “The Transfer Agent (S7 E7). There were flashbacks to Ray’s childhood in the episode to illustrate exactly how horrible a father Mickey was.

Other flashbacks showed how the ’77 Brinks heist really went down. It seemed like Mickey should have known who set him up and not have had to go to all those lengths, torturing Doyle and O’Malley to get to Jim Sullivan. But, of course, he would not know about the tapes otherwise. At the time, Mickey owed Jim Sullivan $5,000 and Jim was treating Mickey like he wouldn’t spit on him if he was on fire. Young Ray showed up at the bar with a knife one night intending to use it on Mickey, but Jim talked him out of it and gave the boy some money. Young Claudette and baby Daryll were also shown in flashback.

In the present, Mickey contacted Jim Sullivan to inquire as to whether he’d be interested in buying some tapes. Jim agreed to meet up with him at McSorley’s Old Ale House, went there and sent his driver home. Daryll kidnapped him in the back alley and took him to Mick. Being tied to a chair didn’t stop Jim from spitting out insults aplenty, including some vicious racial slurs aimed at Darryl. Sandy was instructed to take the tapes somewhere and if Mick didn’t inform her that he and Jim had come to terms in 2 hours, she should release them to the Boston Globe.

Back in Rose Beach, some passerbys roused Ray from the unconscious state Daryll put him in. He was a bloody mess but soon got cleaned up and, typically, looked no worse for the wear with nary a stitch or bandage in sight. Ray could not get a hold of Jim Sullivan so he called Molly. She contacted Jim’s driver, Roberto, leading them to McSorley’s where Jim was nowhere to be found now. Molly was very upset that Ray lied about Mickey being dead. She wanted to call the police about the murders but Ray said she had to trust him if she wanted her father to live. At McSorley’s, Ray got an idea on how to get Sandy’s attention. He called her credit card company and asked them to send text alerts every time the card was used. Then he used her card to buy the whole bar a round and give the bartender a $100 tip. Ray called Bunchy and told him to stake out Sandy’s house. At the same time, Sandy got the McSorley’s text alert and called the bar. Ray hung up on Bunchy, took the phone off the bartender and demanded to know Mickey’s whereabouts. Sandy said “You don’t scare me, Ray” and hung up on him.

Mickey and Jim argued back and forth with Jim offering one million in cash. Daryll wanted to hop on that but Mick wanted half of everything Jim owns. They finally settled on 20% of everything and Jim contacted his transfer agent to make that happen. To Daryll’s dismay, Mickey instructed Jim to put it all in Terry’s name because he is the oldest son. Mickey assured Daryll that all his boys would get their fair share. Ray and Molly attempted to intercept the transfer agent, Mr. Moskovitz. This resulted in an altercation where Ray nearly killed a bodyguard right in front of a duly horrified Molly. Terry showed up with Ray’s car. Ray raced off to Sandy’s house and set it on fire. Yeah. Can you believe he did that? Neither could Sandy but she gave up Mickey’s location. In the commotion, Bunchy went in Sandy’s car and made off with the tapes.

Your boy’s got the papers ~ Jim Sullivan

Daryll met Moskovitz and took possession of the briefcase containing a stock certificate issued to Terence Donovan for 100 shares of Sullivan Industries, Inc., which hardly sounds like 20% of everything billionaire Jim Sullivan has. Whatever, Daryll has it now and he decided to keep it. Mickey sobbed when informed that Darryl made the pickup, but soon found he could not get a hold of either Sandy or Darryl. Mickey thought Jim pulled another fast one and had a gun pointed at Jim’s head just when Ray burst into the room. Mickey warned Ray that he would kill Jim if he didn’t back off. As he ran out the door, Mickey told Ray: “I’m gonna make it right before I go. You’re gonna believe in me again, son.”

Ray cut Jim Sullivan loose and Jim said Ray should have killed Mickey back when he was a little boy. Jim said he could see that Ray had it in him then and he wonders if Ray has it in him now. Somehow, we get the feeling that if Ray listens to the tapes, Jim will be the one who better watch his Irish keester.

In other news

Smitty didn’t tell Detective Perry anything she wanted to know. He just stuck to the concert story. When he told Bridget about it, he suddenly asked her why she slept with Adam and she could only meekly say she didn’t know. What was she supposed to say? Anything but this, we suppose: “I’m so afraid I’m like my father.” That only made Smitty more angry and he assured her that he had a worse childhood than she did. He said he would never use that as an excuse to hurt her. Bridget has a long way to go to earn back Smitty’s trust. But their chances of staying together are probably a lot better than those of Ray and Molly right about now.
