Oregon State Beats Arkansas for College World Series Championship

Freshman right hander Kevin Abel pitched a two hit shutout to lead the Oregon State Beavers over the Arkansas Razorbacks to win Game 3 of the best of three College World Series Championship on June 28th. Abel struck out 10 Razorbacks in his fourth victory of the tournament; he was also the winner of Game 2 in relief.

Arkansas won Game 1, and had a 3-2 lead going into the ninth inning of Game 2, but Oregon State put three runs on the board in the ninth to win. The Beavers got off to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 3 and never looked back. Catcher Adley Rutschman had three hits to set a Series record with 17. He was 17 for 30 at the plate (.567) with two homers and 13 RBIs, and was named the MVP of the tournament.

This is Oregon State’s third College World Series Championship; the Beavers won consecutive titles in 2006 and 2007. All three have been under coach Pat Casey.
