Mayim Bialik Talks About Single Jeopardy! and Her Movie on Kelly Clarkson

Actress Mayim Bialik, who is currently hosting the game show Jeopardy!, put in an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson show on Friday, May 27th. In this clip, she talked about the big blow-up after she called the first round of Jeopardy! “Single Jeopardy”

Mayim explained how she was simply repeating the phrase from the clue boards she had reviewed. The title on the board for the first round says “Single Jeopardy” on it. The main thing she wanted to impress on people is “I don’t go rogue.” Mayim said there are 86 people watching her and if she was asked to redo that part, she would have happily complied. But no one said anything until the episode aired and the issue went viral. “Isn’t it funny what people freak out about,” host Kelly Clarkson wondered. Funny, how? In the “strange” sense of the word, I thought. Kelly said it almost makes one want to point out issues that are much more important. Kelly doesn’t understand why people focused on that.

But then, Kelly doesn’t know that it isn’t about Single Jeopardy! at all. There’s a bunch of Jeopardy! watchers who watch Mayim like hawks for any little thing they can complain about. Then, there are a bunch of writers for media outlets who don’t even watch Jeopardy! who watch Twitter like hawks. They pick up on these complaints and write sensational headlines that proclaim that “Mayim did this” or “Mayim did that” and “Jeopardy! Fans are Outraged”. Kelly Clarkson is right though — it is very strange to see grown people carry on like that.

To be fair, Ken Jennings gets hated on, too, but to a much lesser degree than the vitriol that has been aimed at Mayim, and he generally gets the lion’s share of the media love.

Mayim and Kelly also talked about the recently released film “As They Made Us” which is Mayim’s baby. She wrote the screenplay and directed it as well.
