Jeopardy! Summer Reading Recommendations

Here are the Top 10 books on the Jeopardy! Summer Reading list posted on J! Buzz. Some of these books have already been in clues and we think that is an indication that there will be clues coming up on some of the other ones, so let’s keep an eye out for them.

“Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow is on Alex Trebek’s reading list. Back in December 2015, Lin-Manuel Miranda gave us the clues in an entire category called, what else?– “Hamilton.”

Alex also put Sophia Loren’s new memoir “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” on the list. It would be great to see some Sophia Loren clues, maybe even a category. There has not been a category on the legendary Italian bombshell since 1991. The last time she appeared in a clue was in April of 2015: ZERO TO SIXTY $400: “2014 marked the 60th anniversary of this brand’s Gullwing 300SL, driven by Clark Gable & Sophia Loren.”

By the way, the memoir’s title was also the name of a 1963 film that Sophia starred in with Marcello Mastroianni. The film’s original Italian name “Ieri, Oggi, Domani” was in a “Movies” clue in a 1987 match.

On Clue Crew member Kelly Miyahara’s list is “I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban” by Malala Yousafzai. At age 17, Malala won half of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014, and that was the topic of the $1600 clue in “People” in the fourth quarter-final of the 2015 Tournament of Champions.

There was a clue on “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” by Marie Kondo in the 6/16/2016 match.

New parent Sarah Whitcomb Foss plans on reading: “Permission to Parent: How to Raise Your Child With Love and Limits” by Dr. Robin Berman. Actress Reese Witherspoon (who has been in many Jeopardy! clues herself) highly recommended this book: “I have remarked many times that there is no parenting manual that comes with your child when they are born, but I believe Robin Berman, MD has written the first one that should be present in every delivery room. Hallelujah!”

Jimmy McGuire will be looking to improve his golf game this summer with “How to Break 90: An Easy Approach for Breaking Golf’s Toughest Scoring Barrier” by T.J. Tomasi and Mike Adams

The Jeopardy! Staff added 4 novels to bring the list up to 10:

“Me Before You” by Jojo Moyes – a romance develops between a paralyzed man and his caretaker. The film version (in theaters now) stars Emilia Clark and Sam Claflin. Jojo Moyes also wrote the screenplay.

“The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins – A psychological thriller weaves together tales of the disasters that arise when one covets what others have. USA Today says it “marries movie noir with novelistic trickery… hang on tight. You’ll be surprised by what horrors lurk around the bend.” The film version is coming up this fall.

“Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline – This science fiction novel plunges the reader into a virtual utopia in a futuristic dystopia. NY Times best-selling author Daniel H. Wilson (“Robopocalypse”) says it “expertly mines a copious vein of 1980s pop culture, catapulting the reader on a light-speed adventure in an advanced but backward-looking future.” Yep, a film is in the works.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany – This is actually the script of a play set to open “officially” (a preview has already been shown in 2 parts) in London on Harry Potter’s birthday, and that’s when the script will be released as well.
