Golden Knights Beat Panthers To Win Stanley Cup

On June 12th, the top seed in the NBAs Western Conference beat the #8 seed from the Eastern Conference to win the NBA Finals 4 games to 1. It is the first NBA title for the winning Denver Nuggets. The #8 seed was from Miami. We had a repeat of that in the Stanley Cup Finals on the 13th, when the top seed in the NHL Western conference beat a suburban Miami based #8 seed from the Eastern conference to win the Cup 4 games to 1. It is the first Stanley Cup championship for the winners.

The Vegas Golden Knights walloped the Florida Panthers 9-3 in Las Vegas to close out the Stanley Cup Finals 4-1. Mark Stone had a hat trick, and Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore each had three assists for the Golden Knights. Vegas led 2-0 after the first period and then scored four in the second period to basically put it out of reach. Panthers’ goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had a nightmare of a game, allowing eight goals on 31 shots (one of Stone’s three goals was an empty netter).

Golden Knights’ winger Jonathon Marchessault won the Conn Smythe Trophy, emblematic of the playoffs Most Valuable Player. He scored 13 goals and had 12 assists in 22 games. The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in just their sixth season in the NHL. You may recall they made it to the Finals in their first season (2017-18) before losing to the Washington Capitals in five games. Six players from that original season remain.
