Alex Ovechkin Scores 742nd Career Goal, 4th on All Time Scoring List

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin scored at 10:19 of the 1st period in the Capitals’ game at Columbus on November 12th, tying the game at 1-1. The goal was another milestone for Ovechkin; it was the 742nd of his career, breaking a tie with Brett Hull for the 4th most career goals in NHL history.

The 36 year old Russian winger is off to a great start to his 2021-22 NHL season. He has 12 goals on the season, second only to Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl, who has 14. He also has 12 assists, and his 24 total points are third in the league. The Capitals (8-2-4) went on to win the game 4-3 over the Blue Jackets, and moved into a tie for the lead in the Metropolitan Division with the Carolina Hurricanes (10-2) who lost to the Philadelphia Flyers. Both have 20 points.

Jaromir Jagr is third in goals scored with 766, within range of Ovechkin later this season. Gordie Howe is second with 801, and Wayne Gretzky tops the list at 894.
