Final Jeopardy: 7-1-19 to 7-5-19

Here are the Final Jeopardy questions and answers for the week of July 1 through July 5, 2019.

Tue, July 2 – Correct answers: 1

Fri, July 5 – Correct answers: 3
16TH CENTURY NAMES: Hoping to stop Dominican friar Johannes Tetzel from preaching for indulgences, in 1517 he wrote a series of debate topics show

The week began with a couple of tough Final Jeopardy! clues. Wednesday was hard on the players, too. Then, we finished up with a couple of softballs. The first three could have contained some pointer to help out the players like the last two did. On Monday, instead of that 3/4 the size of Africa bit, they might have included the area of a small island in that group. Tuesday’s clue should have noted that they were looking for a hyphenated word. I also think that a mention of snakes on Wednesday would not have been as big a giveaway as “indulgences” was on Friday.

Jeopardy! champs from July 1-5, 2019

E.J. Wolborsky was the returning champ on Monday, going for Win No. 4 but he lost the game to Josh Levit. Charlie Jorgenson won the next 2 games but lost to Ryan Bilger on Thursday. Ryan won again on Friday and will be back on Monday. Both Charlie and Ryan scored runaways and both won over $30K in one of their games.

Here is The FIFA Men’s World Cup category from Friday’s game

Only Ryan got on my list of the Top 15 Daily Payouts of Season 35. However, Charlie is the third player this season to win $32,800 in a single game. Bif Reiser was the first on 2/7/19, and Barton Wong was second on 3/13/19.

As noted before, this list only reflects a contestant’s highest payout, otherwise James Holzhauer would be dominating that list. As it is, he is now the only player for all 10 spots in the Single-Game Winnings column in Jeopardy!’s Hall of Fame.

Check out James Holzhauer’s Jeopardy Statistics for a quick look at his FJ and DD bets in all his games. More 10 games or more Jeopardy! champs.

Just out of curiosity, VJ, are you familiar with the name João Gilberto?

    • VJ says:

No, Cece, but I did see that he passed away this morning. The first I ever heard of the bossa nova was from Eydie Gorme when I was about 11 years old. “Blame It on the Bossa Nova”

      • Cece says:

I think his wife, Astrud Gilberto, was better known here in the 60’s for singing The Girl From Ipanema.

        • VJ says:

Oh yeah, I love that song!

I can never remember how to pronounce João

        • Cece says:

The Portuguese “ão” is a very hard sound for speakers of other languages to pronounce, even for speakers of other Romance languages. 🙂

Thanks for the video above, VJ. I ran a category in sports—yippee!

(Ok, it’s soccer, but still count as sports, right?)
