Fri, Apr 22 – Correct answers: 1
HISTORIC NAMES: DNA from 2 living descendants of Anne of York was used to identify the remains of this man show

On the bright side, I suppose, there was only one triple stumper in Final Jeopardy! this week. On the incredible side, there was not one clue out of the other four that produced more than one correct response. It was unavoidable on Wednesday — there was only one player left in FJ! Friday’s clue was the easiest of the week. That guy shows up a lot and York was a strong indicator that it was none other. The hardest clue was about Africa on Tuesday. Something about tusks might have helped, but only in English. The French word for tusks is “défenses”!

Jeopardy! champs, week of April 18, 2022

9x champ Mattea Roach played her 10th game on Monday. She won that game and swept the rest of the week, even though she only got FJ! right twice. She had three runaway games and a top payout of $34,000 on Friday. All told, Mattea racked up $109,279 this week and finished with a 14-day total of $320,081.

Here is the “I SEE YOU THERE!” category from Tuesday’s game.

VJ, Thanks so much for the information.

I did not realize Mattea is as young as she is until I started reading articles about her today. I’m making this point because I don’t recall any contestant as young as she is having a run like she’s having on Jeopardy. VJ, or anyone, can you help me on this? Mattea is 23 years old according to media outlets.

Jacob, it looks like Mattea is the youngest of the 10x or more champs since I have been recapping the show. She was born in 1998. I think Matt Jackson (born in 1992) is next.

Wikipedia has an article on notable Jeopardy! champs. It includes dates of birth. I could be wrong but I came up with age 22 for Brad Rutter when he won his first 5 games.

Here’s a few champs that made the ToC but didn’t win 10 games. I believe they were in their 20s during their run, but a year or two older than Mattea: Ryan Fenster, Alan Lin, Ryan Bilger and Brayden Smith (who unfortunately passed away before the ToC he qualified for).
