WHAT IS “THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ” or “THE WIZARD OF OZ”?

From the Library of Congress “The Wizard of Oz: An American Fairy Tale” Exhibit home page: Since its publication in September 1900, L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has become America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale. The first totally American fantasy for children, it is one of the most-read children’s books. It has also engendered a long series of sequels, stage plays and musicals, movies and television shows, biographies of Baum, scholarly studies of the significance of the book and film, advertisements, and toys, games, and other Oz-related products. In Jason Zuffranieri’s 9th game, both of the above responses were accepted in Final Jeopardy!

Abigail wrote down “Shrek”, obviously just to have something. She lost her $2,001 bet and finished with $4,999.

Andrew got it right with “The Wizard of Oz”. He bet $1,000 and finished with $10,000.

Matt was also right with the same response as Andrew. He added $15,000 to his score and won the game with $54,400. His 32-day total is $1,212,401. Congrats, Matt, on your tie with James Holzhauer’s streak. Tune in tomorrow to see if Matt can snag the No. 2 spot in the Jeopardy! Hall of Fame for consecutive games won.

Sorry but today was Matt 31st game win

  2. Jacob Ska says:

I was surprised the Frankfurt Börse was a triple stumper. A Business major would have gotten this which shows Jeopardy clues are only easy if they are in your wheelhouse.

@VJ, sometimes when Matt pauses after he buzzes in I think about how Alex Jacob used to drive you crazy doing that while rubbing his lower back at the same time. He would wait until the last second to respond. That was too funny. 😂😂

    • VJ says:

Lol, Jacob. I always thought that Alex Jacob was counting the seconds he had left to answer and I still think that’s what tripped him up on that one DD he knew the answer to in the All Stars Game. He miscounted.

  3. Elan Xu says:

He has now tied James Holzhauer’s record of 32 games.

I love your site, VJ! It is very nice! I love it!

Just asking if any of your kids watched The Shrek Series before just because my brother loves it and he’s obviously a fan. Also, did your kids watch The Wizard of Oz before? It’s a very good 1939 movie and I think you should watch it. It is a true recommendation to you.

    • VJ says:

Thanks, Darius. Yes, we have all seen The 1939 Wizard of Oz. It came on TV once a year when I was a kid and we never missed it. I bought the film and now it’s in my Amazon library.

  5. Kevin Cheng says:

Um you forgot the scores at the end of the Double Jeopardy round. But still congrats to Matt for tying No. 2 spot in number of consecutive games won.

    • Lou says:

Actually Matt won 31 games so today should read 31 time champ Matt amodio VJ. Still the wonderful wizard of oz reminded me of what that wicked witch said I will get you my pretty and your little dog too. That line certainly brought back a lot of memories. Anyway congrats to Matt on winning game 32 and now we can watch him add another one tomorrow.

      • VJ says:

@Lou, My favorite character in the Wizard of Oz is the Cowardly Lion — “put ’em up! put ’em up!”

btw, I saw an episode of Gunsmoke last week featuring Margaret Hamilton (the Wicket Witch of the West). There’s a blooper scene on YouTube where she cracks everyone up with her ad-lib

    • klm says:

I don’t understand this VJ. Why don’t you want a debate about all things J! on your site as long as the debate is within the confines of politeness, and even if the debate is about complaints, suspicions, or accusations?
It would only add to the popularity of the site if more people came and shared their opinion about some controversy.

      • VJ says:

I’m fine with polite debate, klm. The problem is it escalates so quickly (or perhaps I should say deteriorates). There was a really rude comment on here this morning. I was at the eye doctor’s when I saw it and couldn’t deal with it til I got home. I am not going to delete any remarks that are not rude and out of line.

The other thing that gets on my nerves is no matter how many times it is explained, proven even (like the leading article issue and responses in the form of a question), some people still insist on griping about it to no good purpose. (half-joking — Maybe if enough people complain to the show, they’ll change those rules.)

Posting one’s opinion politely has always been fine on this site, even if it is an unpopular opinion, but people do get carried away. About 6 years ago, remarks made by a small number of posters were unfairly singled out to represent all the posters on here. This site never was another Twitter and I never wanted it to be perceived that way. But I believe the line has to be drawn somewhere and I hope you understand.. In case you don’t know, other sites that cover Jeopardy! do not allow anyone to say anything negative about the contestants. For example, there is a large audience on reddit/jeopardy that prefers it that way.
