WHO IS “THE GODFATHER”?

In the opening scene of “The Godfather” (1972), Amerigo Bonasera (Salvatore Corsitto) asks Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) for justice for his daughter, who was brutally beaten in an attempted rape. According to Sicilian tradition, the Godfather cannot refuse a favor because it is his daughter’s wedding day. The question of why Bonasera went to the police first leads up to the famous line: “What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully?” The majority of the actors in “The Godfather” were from the New York area.
