WHO IS LOUISA MAY ALCOTT?

Louisa May Alcott commenced to writing “Little Women” in 1868, writing in her journal that her father, Amos Bronson Alcott “saw Mr. Niles [her publisher] about a fairy book. Mr. N wants a girl’s story, and I begin ‘Little Women’…. I plod away though I don’t enjoy this sort of thing. Never liked girls or knew many, except my sisters, but our queer play and experiences may prove interesting, though I doubt it.” When it was later accepted and published, Alcott kept the copyright, a decision she was surely thrilled about when “Little Women” sold extremely well.

An old clue from 2015 (and 1987, 1996 and 2003, in one form or another): FIRST LINES (400) “‘Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents’ grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.”

Dana bet it all and doubled her score to $16,400.

Lisa bet $9,100, bringing her up to $18,300.

Robert bet $4,001 and won the game with $18,401. Robert Kaine is the new Jeopardy! champ.

I missed most of the show. All I saw was that creampuff of a Final Jeopardy clue.

  2. William Weyser says:

At least, we got our 1st Triple Solve of this season, and unlike last season, we didn’t have to wait over a month for the 1st Triple Solve of the season, but still no 3 or More Time Champion. Yes, we’re still early in the new season, but better luck next time.

omg! That was great, Rhonda! I yelled out, “look, it’s my maiden name clue” and showed it to my daughter. She got it this time.

In addition to at least 12 adaptations made for television, Little Women has inspired a 1918 silent film, the 1933 adaptation starring Katharine Hepburn, the 1949 June Allyson-starring version, the 1994 Winona Ryder version, the 2018 Pure Flix edition and now, the Greta Gerwig-directed 2019 edition starring Saoirse Ronam and Emma Watson.

  5. Lou says:

I thought Dana had this game won but congrats to all three on getting final right. If I remember correctly, mandolin is actually a italian instrument and not from Latin America. Anyway, hopefully robert can actually string some more wins this week. It’s been at least eight days and still no five day winners yet. Was little woman ever made into a movie?

    • Howard says:

Little Women has been filmed several times. It was a hit just last year! Garnered several Oscar nominations.
