Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS?

George Washington was elected the first President of the United States after an election that was held from 12/15/1788 to 1/10/1789. He was inaugurated in April 1789 and gave the first State of the Union address the following year on January 8, 1790. Although that was the shortest State of the Union address ever, it was still a lot longer than Washington’s second inaugural speech that was only 135 words long!

Project Gutenberg has a compilation of all State of the Union addresses from 1790 through 2008, evidently a work in progress. Of the 8 addresses given by President Washington, the first was the only one given in January.

Juliana thought it was the Federalist Papers. She bet nothing so she finished with the $3,400 she started with.

Emmett got it right. He doubled his $15,400 to $30,800.

Kelly went with an inaugural address. She lost $11,001 and was left with $8,799. So, for the third time, Emmett Stanton won the game from second place. His 3-day total is $72,600. To borrow a phrase from Jackie Gleason, how sweet it is!

Tricky Final today. “Inaugural speech” was way too obvious and I believe a year before the date in the clue. SOTU came to me right near the end, but probably not in enough time to write it out.

Nasty stumpers except for the Down Under Capital and the 3-letter drama queen. That latter word is a common answer in crosswords. The unsolved clues in Before and After Names ($1600 and $2000) were a cinch if you’re into music and sports, especially for we seniors who saw “West Side Story” and grooved to the Beach Boys and Motown tunes.

@Howard, I got that $2000 Good Vibrations Before and After. I thought that was a great clue!

I only got the West Side Story half of the $1600 clue.

As a sports junkie, I can assure you that Kawhi Leonard is a superstar who keeps a very low profile and made that half of the clue tough.

Emmett is looking good for that 4th win which will secure his spot in the next toc.
