WHAT IS CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY?
Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA was founded in 1900 by Scottish-American tycoon and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Originally called the Carnegie Technical Schools, it was renamed the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1912 and continued as such until 1967, when it merged with the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research.
The University devotes a page to “Tartan Facts” on its website, acknowledging that the school’s athletic teams’ nickname is a tribute to the Scottish heritage of its founder. They describe tartan fabric in great detail, including how to differentiate it from plaid. Scotty the Dog became the school’s official mascot in 2007 after some 50 years of students dressing up as a Scottish terrier. Evidently, they even got a live dog at that point.
Gilad came up with Glasgow. He lost his $6,000 bet and finished with $400.
Annabel went with Notre Dame. That cost her $2,600 and left her with $9,800.
Luigi wrote down NJIT to stand for New Jersey Institute of Technology. He lost his $7,000 bet but won the game with the $25,500 he had left. Luigi’s 5-day total is $140,700.

I’m surprised (or not) that no one has mentioned Luigi pronouncing non English words with that language’s accent. Since he gets it correct, it doesn’t bother me.
On the other hand, speaking of correct, that was not me with FJ. I didn’t have an answer. That is only interesting in a minor way, as my wife works with a woman that graduated from CMU in fine arts (singing), and was there at the same time as Patrick Wilson, the actor. But, it didn’t come to mind.
All daily doubles are correct today, except for Final Jeopardy, the first triple stumper of the season.
Regarding FJ, I thought that it might have been MIT, but oh well, there’s always tomorrow.
Luigi is our first streaker of season 39 and is qualified for the next tournament of Champions. Congrats to him winning game 5.
Yesterday we had our first triple solve of the new season but today is the exact opposite our first triple stumper of the new season. But on the plus side, Luigi de Guzman won his 5th game becoming our first streaker of Season 39 and he is now qualified for the Tournament of Champions in 2023.
That is why the host wins Final Jeopardy for the first time this season.
