WHAT IS “AMADEUS”?

From StageAgent’s synopsis of Peter Schaffer’s Tony award-winning 1979 play “Amadeus”: “We begin in the streets of Vienna in 1823 where rumors are flying that old man Salieri … has confessed to murdering Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.” The 1984 movie version of the same name won 8 Oscars. One went to Shaffer for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

Mozart died at age 35 in Vienna on 12/5/1791 in Vienna. Salieri died at age 74 on 5/7/1825, also in Vienna

Also good to know: THEATRE ($200) Alexander Pushkin’s “Motsart I Salieri” was the forerunner of this 1979 play -and- MUSIC ($600) An 1898 opera by Rimsky-Korsakov concerned these “Amadeus” adversaries

Wendy bet it all and doubled her score to $24,800.

Charlie bet $10,001, bringing him up to $24,801.

Ryan bet a mere $50, prompting Alex to assume that showed little confidence in the category. Not necessarily… maybe Ryan lost a $50 bet and was just covering that. In any event, Ryan became the new Jeopardy! champ with that $34,650 win.

Who is more prestigious: Wolfgang Amadeus or Ludwig Van?

    • VJ says:

Albert, I asked you before what you mean by prestigious. More important? More impressive? More well-known?

Until I know that, I can’t offer an opinion on these questions.

Happy 4th of July. Congrats to Ryan, a new champion with $34,650. We’re 16 games away until the Season Finale.

  3. Lou says:

Glad that everyone.got this right since Amadeus is my favorite movie that I saw in middle school. Still let’s hope Ryan can build up a streak next week. Furthermore VJ, when was the last time you saw Amadeus?

    • VJ says:

I’m also glad everyone got it right, Lou. The last time I saw “Amadeus” was also the first time. I don’t remember exactly when that was.

Extra clues are on the second page of this post for anyone wondering where the link is. That saved me a little time for barbecue today.

      Happy Fourth of July!
